Why do I have dark circles and hollow under eyes?

We commonly associate dark circles and hollow under eyes (tear troughs) as a sign of getting older. But, while ageing can play a factor, dark circles are a common skin concern that affects men and women of all ages.

So, what are the other causes? Factors such as genetics, a lack of sleep, stress and pollution can lead to dark circles and sunken eyes that make you look tired.

While dark circles are not harmful, they can leave you feeling less confident in your appearance. Thankfully, tear trough filler treatments can reduce the appearance of dark circles and plump your under-eye area.

How can dermal fillers help?

Dermal fillers are a safe and effective non-surgical treatment that helps to rejuvenate your skin. They contain a soft injectable gel that has hyaluronic acid as its key ingredient. Dermal filler treatment helps to give your skin an injection of hydration which leaves your skin looking more healthy.

Tear trough filler treatment works to reduce dark circles and plump the skin in your under-eye area. Dermal fillers continue to work by stimulating collagen production in the injection site, which helps to minimise lines and wrinkles under your eyes.

How does tear trough filler treatment work in Buckinghamshire?

Your consultation

At our Chalfont St Peter clinic, you will start by having an initial consultation with one of our doctors or trained practitioners. This is where we will assess your skin and discuss your skin goals.

During your consultation, we will also talk you through the tear trough filler procedure. This includes what you can expect from your treatment and what results you are likely to achieve. From this, we will develop a tailored treatment plan that will work for you and your skin.

Your tear trough filler treatment tear through fillers

Your dermal filler treatment will be carried out by one of our doctors or trained practitioners. They will run through where the dermal filler injection sites will be and how long your treatment will take. On average tear trough fillers take 30-45 minutes.

Most patients describe the treatment as virtually painless. However, your under-eye area is particularly sensitive, so we do apply a numbing cream before starting your treatment.

It is important that you choose a trained medical professional to carry out your dermal filler treatment. Our team is skilled in knowing where to inject dermal fillers and to what depth. This ensures that you have a safe and comfortable treatment, while also seeing great results.

Using a small needle, your practitioner will inject dermal fillers beneath the skin on your tear troughs. We may massage the product into place to help it settle. You will remain at the clinic for a short while after treatment so that our team can make sure you are happy with your results.

Your results and aftercare

After your tear trough fillers, we will provide you with advice on how to get the most out of your results and take care of your under-eye area.

You should see instant results, however, they will continue to improve over the next few weeks, when you will see the final results of your tear trough filler. You may have some bruising or swelling in the area after your treatment. This is completely normal and will go down within a few days.

You can expect your eyes to look more refreshed for up to 12 months. This may differ from patient to patient, as it will depend on how your skin responds to the dermal filler.

If you need to ask any advice or questions about your treatment, you can always contact our team who will be happy to help you.
