Frown lines are also known as ‘eleven lines’ or ‘glabella lines’.
These particular wrinkles appear at the gap between the eyebrows, and are fairly small and vertical. Frown lines can change the look of a person’s face, often giving a look that makes them appear to be angry or stressed. Both men and women can experience the development of frown lines as they get older, finding the fine lines that appear on frowning, become irreversible and more profound.
Frown lines are simply caused by the action of frowning. The corrugator muscle in the forehead is responsible for pulling the eyebrows together when displaying this emotion, which is often done many times over many years. By the time a person reaches their 30’s the ageing process starts to show its effects, and the skin becomes weaker, thinner, loose and wrinkles will appear. The repeated movement of frowning will also tire the muscles which causes them to become taut and over contract. This results in a permanent groove in the underlying skin, for which the skin remains settled in.
Like many other aesthetic clinics, Dr. Grace Kelly Aesthetic Skin Clinic uses anti-wrinkle injections as the most effective way to treat frown lines. This treatment is applied directly to the corrugator muscle which works to paralyse it temporarily, so that its movement is softer and less contracted. The area between the eyebrows will then lose the grooves in the underlying tissues that skin is sitting in and the wrinkle is dramatically reduced.
Our patients often return regularly – every 4 – 6 months, to ensure their youthfully smooth skin is maintained. By eradicating frown lines, a stressed appearance becomes calmer and happier looking. Although anti-wrinkle produces great results, the outcome can be further enhanced when microneedling and / or medical grade skin care is combined.
