WHAT IS SAGGING SKIN?
The cheeks, under the eyes and around the jawline are areas of the face where this concern becomes most noticeable which contributes to other common conditions such as jowls, flat cheeks, a downturned mouth, nasolabial folds and loose / crepey skin around the neck. As well as being one factor that contributes to a tired look, sagging skin can also alter facial contouring and give a heavy look to the lower face.
WHAT CAUSES SAGGING SKIN?
Sagging skin is primarily an ageing-related concern that arises from the loss of collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are often described as scaffolding for the complexion which helps to maintain a firm internal structure. The production of these substances starts to decline when a person is in their 20’s, and the skin slowly begins to weaken and lose volume. Sagging skin, along with lines and wrinkles, develop when the underlying tissues provide less support to the surface layers which leads to lines, creases and the descent of natural fat and the overlying skin.
HOW CAN THIS BE TREATED?
There are a wide range of aesthetic treatments available at Dr. Grace Kelly Aesthetic Skin Clinic to help restore lost volume and elasticity to the skin. After assessing your concerns and discussing the desired end result, our highly trained clinicians can recommend the most suitable solution for you. We often carry out a thorough analysis of the skin using the Observ 520X which takes an in-depth look at the complexion and can identify your skin’s individual pattern of ageing. This will enable us to suggest the treatment that addresses your concerns more accurately, and may include: dermal fillers, skin tightening, IPL skin rejuvenation or Profhilo to help create smoother, fuller skin. A combination of treatments can be used to optimise results, and regular use of appropriate skincare can give continued support.
