WHAT IS A WRINKLY CHEST?
These wrinkles often differ in appearance to those found on the face, usually developing as longer, vertical creases. Over time, chest wrinkles can increase in number and in many cases they can appear closer together, giving the skin a crepey texture. This concern is often visible when wearing clothing with a lower neckline, which can make a person feel self-conscious.
WHAT CAUSES A WRINKLY CHEST?
A wrinkly chest is primarily caused by ageing skin. The ageing process and the decline of collagen and elastin causes the skin to become weak, thin and less supported by its underlying structure. These factors contribute to the development of wrinkles and creases in the skin which usually become more pronounced as time goes on. Another contributor to wrinkles, usually recognised on the upper face, is movement of the skin. Many side-sleepers will find they are more likely to develop chest wrinkles as the positioning of the body causes the skin to be pushed together, causing a crease that eventually becomes permanent.
Sun exposure and poor lifestyle choices (such as smoking and drinking alcohol) can speed up the breakdown of collagen and elastin, causing chest wrinkles to develop prematurely or more pronounced than one would like.
HOW CAN THIS BE TREATED?
At Dr. Grace Kelly aesthetic Skin Clinic we have many treatments available that help to improve the texture and appearance of the skin. Procedures such as: dermal fillers, skin tightening, chemical peels, IPL skin rejuvenation, and Profhilo can help to strengthen both the surface of the skin and its deeper layers as the tissues are replenished and rebuilt. We recommend maintaining the health of the skin through a personalised skincare regime that uses suitable products, and our clinic stocks Obagi and ZO Skin Health medical skincare ranges. SPF products can also be purchased at our clinic which protects the skin from damage caused by the sun.
