What is the SkinPen microneedling treatment?

Too much exposure to the sun, stress and pollution puts a lot of pressure on our skin. It can lead to skin pigmentation, an uneven skin tone and skin that looks dull and lifeless.

Ageing also causes our skin to become more fragile and weak as we start to lose collagen. This is where the SkinPen microneedling treatment can help. This is where you need a treatment that provides you with full skin rejuvenation.

SkinPen microneedling is clinically proven to help you start seeing results after just one treatment. It works by using tiny needles to create micro punctures in the skin. This helps to trigger your skin’s natural healing process.

Micro-needling treatment is also known as collagen induction therapy because it helps to stimulate elastin and collagen production. We use this to treat patients with acne scars as the extra collagen acts as a natural filler by smoothing the skin around the scars.

Collagen production also helps your skin to look younger. It does this by plumping your skin, keeping it strong and more flexible. It also helps minimise fine lines and wrinkles.

What are the benefits of the SkinPen microneedling treatment?

The SkinPen Precision is suitable for many different skin types and can help treat the following skin concerns:

  •       Uneven skin tone and skin texture
  •       Fine lines and wrinkles
  •       Stretch marks
  •       Acne scarring

What can I expect from microneedling in Buckinghamshire

When you come for micro-needling at our Buckinghamshire clinic, the first step is a consultation. This is where one of our practitioners will assess your skin concerns and talk you through what will happen during the treatment. It is also a chance for you to ask any questions you might have.

Before starting your micro-needling session, we will apply some numbing cream to the treatment area. This will help make the treatment more comfortable.

During the treatment the SkinPen is carefully glided over your skin. Tiny needles will create microchannels on your skin which will kickstart the natural repair process and encourage new skin cells to form. This happens in three different stages.

Three stages of the skin repair process

  1.     The piercing of the skin starts the skin healing response. It helps remove dirt and debris while also increasing blood flow and creating new skin tissue.
  2.     The skin starts to produce new skin cells to repair the tiny punctures from the SkinPen device. At this stage, new blood vessels will also develop.
  3.     Finally, the new skin cells and blood vessels help to rejuvenate your complexion, giving you skin that looks refreshed.

After your microneedling treatment

You might experience some redness and a warm sensation for up to 48 hours after your microneedling session. This is completely normal and most patients see redness fade in the first 24 hours. You should not apply any products onto your skin for the first 12 hours.

You will start to see noticeable results after your first treatment. We do recommend having a course of three microneedling treatments every 4-6 weeks, so that you achieve optimal results.

Does microneedling hurt?

It is normal to feel a little bit of discomfort. To make you more comfortable, our practitioners at the Dr Grace Kelly microneedling clinic will apply a topical numbing cream.
