PROFHILO

We all want to look great these days and hold onto our youthful appearance. Profhilo is helping many men and women to do this, and has revolutionised the world of aesthetics. Popular with both patients and practitioners, this safe and effective anti-ageing treatment can provide a range of outcomes. Not only does it work to create a smoother complexion that has softer looking lines and wrinkles, it can also improve skin laxity (sagging skin), an uneven texture and areas of skin discolouration (hyperpigmentation).

So, how does it work?

Profhilo contains very high concentrations of hyaluronic acid. This substance is already produced naturally within the body and is mainly found within the skin and connective tissues. Hyaluronic acid helps to provide adequate hydration wherever it’s needed within the body, and when levels are high, it ensures the skin remains firm, full, bouncy and able to repair itself more effectively. The trouble is that when we reach our 20’s, this organic substance (along with collagen and elastin) will start to decline. This is because the body’s production of hyaluronic acid starts to slow down. After a time, this can cause the skin to become thinner and weaker in structure which leads to the development of sagging skin and wrinkles. Therefore, if we want to slow down our rate of ageing, topping up our levels of hyaluronic acid will help.

The hyaluronic acid used in Profhilo is a stabilised formula which takes longer to break down than the natural substance within the skin, giving a long-lasting result.

How is the treatment applied?

Profhilo is an injectable treatment that’s delivered straight into the skin. Following an in-depth assessment at Dr Grace Kelly Aesthetic Skin Clinic, we’ll establish the specific points where it will be of most benefit. We administer Profhilo just below the skin’s surface which will then spread out through the underlying tissues, reaching a depth of around 4 cm. In most cases, we can address the entire face in 10 injections. At Dr Grace Kelly Aesthetic Skin Clinic we use the BAP (Bio-Aesthetic Point) technique which carefully places 5 injections on each side of the face, specifically:

  • Upper cheek
  • Nasal base
  • Lower cheek
  • Chin
  • Jawline

This ensures the treatment is delivered as efficiently and as comfortably as possible.

Is Profhilo a ‘filler’?

It’s true that Profhilo will volumise the skin, however, it’s a bio-remodelling agent and not a ‘filler’. Fillers are hyaluronic acid gels that work to ‘fill’ a space beneath the skin. Profhilo has a thinner consistency which allows the product to spread out within the tissues, and address a much larger area. It doesn’t ‘add volume’ or change the structure of the features, which is why it’s not used to augment certain facial characteristics. However, it does awaken the cells to rebuild the composition of the skin and restore the production of collagen and elastin. In essence, Profhilo will replenish your complexion for a naturally fresh and rested look.

Which areas can Profhilo treat?

Profhilo is frequently used by clinics such as ours to rejuvenate the skin on the face. However, it can also be used on the neck and decolletage. The popularity of this treatment has led to an advance in its formulation to create a product that can be used on the body (Profhilo Body), restoring a youthful appearance to the skin on the hands, knees and arms.

When will I see results?

At Dr Grace Kelly Aesthetic Skin Clinic we often recommend a course of 2 treatment sessions. These will be carried 4 weeks apart, and the final outcome will have developed within 4 weeks of the second session. The application of Profhilo triggers an instance response beneath the skin, taking around 1 week to fully disperse throughout the tissues. Over a period of 8 – 12 weeks, the hyaluronic acid will absorb moisture to increase tissue mass and increase the production of new collagen and elastin. As results are progressive, you will notice a gradual transformation of the complexion as it becomes firmer and fuller. Most patients will find their skin looks healthier and more youthful as facial lines get softer, sagging skin starts to lift and their appearance generally starts to glow.
