What is Botox treatment?

Botox injections or anti-wrinkle injections are one of the most popular cosmetic treatments for men and women. They are tailored treatments designed to target and smooth out facial lines and wrinkles.

Anti-wrinkle treatments use a small dose of Botulinum toxin to relax specific facial muscles and stop them from working for a short period of time. As a result, the lines and wrinkles caused by those muscle movements such as smiling or frowning stop appearing for a few months.

Botulinum toxin is a naturally occurring protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is the highest-strength toxin that can temporarily relax the muscles without causing them to stop permanently. The most common type is Botulinum toxin type A, which is what we use in our Botox treatments.

You can expect the results of your anti-wrinkle injections to last for 3-4 months. After this point, your facial muscles will return to normal function, and your lines and wrinkles will re-appear.

This is a question we get from many of our patients who want to know which one is the best treatment for them. The short answer is no, they are not the same. In fact, they do different things that can also complement each other.

We use anti-wrinkle injections to treat fine lines and wrinkles, also known as dynamic lines. These are the lines that show up on your face because of your facial expressions. These lines do not remain permanently on the face.

Botox treatment relaxes the muscles that cause these lines and stops them from working in the short term to stop the lines from appearing.

Dermal fillers, on the other hand, work on deeper lines and wrinkles that remain on the face all the time. These are also known as static lines and wrinkles.

Dermal filler treatments such as lip fillers work by adding volume to areas that are naturally thin or have lost volume over time. They contain hyaluronic acid which helps to hydrate and plump the skin. This is something that anti-wrinkle treatments don’t do.

Besides lip filler, dermal fillers are also a great treatment for adding definition to the cheeks, nose, chin and jawline. They help to shape and firm and provide you with more radiant-looking skin.

Can you have Botox injections after laser hair removal?

Yes, you can have anti-wrinkle injections after having laser hair removal treatment. The same goes if you want to have Botox injections after laser treatment.

There is one rule you will need to follow, however. You need to leave a gap of at least two weeks between both treatments. This is so your skin has the time it needs to recover. It also gives Botox time to work its magic without the laser impacting how it works.

Is Botox safe?

In the hands of an expert Botox treatment is very safe, and most people are suitable for this treatment. You cannot have anti-wrinkle injections if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking certain medications.

When you attend our clinic, our doctor will talk you through whether you are suitable for Botox treatment. If not, they will recommend an alternative treatment that will work best for you and your skin.

What happens during anti-wrinkle treatments in Uxbridge?
