What are anti-wrinkle injections?
Anti-wrinkle injections also known as Botox injections are one of the most popular facial rejuvenation treatments for women and men.
Anti-wrinkle treatment does exactly what it says in the title. It helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles on the face to give you a more youthful look.
Wrinkle-relaxing injections use a small amount of Botulinum toxin, which is a purified protein that helps to relax facial muscles for a short period of time. We inject Botox treatment into specific muscles that cause expression lines to form. This includes the muscles that cause frown lines, crow’s feet, smile lines and forehead lines.
The results of anti-wrinkle injections are not permanent. The treatment will wear off after a few months and your muscle function will return to normal.
Are wrinkle-relaxing injections the same as dermal fillers?
For anyone looking for the best facial treatments for a more youthful glow, wrinkle-relaxing injections and dermal fillers are two of the best. But the fact is, they are two very different treatments that target and treat different skin concerns.
Anti-wrinkle injections: use Botulinum toxin to temporarily relax specific facial muscles that result in dynamic wrinkles (expression wrinkles). They smooth out these fine lines for a more rejuvenated look.
Dermal fillers: such as lip fillers or cheek fillers are a gel-like substance that contain hyaluronic acid as their main ingredient. They help to add volume or restore lost volume in the face. Dermal fillers can also help to enhance facial features such as the lips, chin and jawline to bring more balance to your face.
Because they include hyaluronic acid, dermal fillers also help to hydrate the skin and smooth out deep lines and wrinkles. The overall effect is a more glowing and youthful appearance.
Can you have both treatments together?
To help give you the maximum effect for anti-ageing, you can have both treatments together. In fact, we use both treatments to help patients achieve a liquid facelift, which gives them a more balanced and youthful look.
However, it is unlikely you will have dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections at the same time. We normally do Botox treatment first to relax your dynamic wrinkles. After two weeks, once the Botox has settled, we will inject dermal fillers to help fill deeper wrinkles and enhance your facial contours.
There are instances where you might be able to have both treatments in the same session. We can discuss this with you at your consultation.
What to expect during your anti-wrinkle injection procedure
You will have anti-wrinkle treatment with one of our highly skilled cosmetic doctors or nurse practitioners. All of the team has undergone medical training in how to deliver Botox injections safely to ensure you see natural-looking results.
We use a very fine needle to inject Botox into the skin. This is only slightly uncomfortable. Most patients describe feeling the slight scratch from the needle, but this only lasts for a few seconds. If you would feel more comfortable, we can discuss using a topical numbing cream around the injection sites first.
You can expect your treatment to last no longer than 30 minutes. This will depend on how many areas you are having treatment in. Your doctor will give you a set of aftercare instructions to follow to help the Botox settle and to ensure you get the most from your results.
Most patients can go back to work straight after their treatment. For other activities such as exercise, you will need to wait 24-48 hours.
After your Botox treatment
The injection sites after your treatment may feel slightly tender. You may also see a slight redness or swelling in the treatment area. This is completely normal and will go down within 24 hours. Some patients do see some mild bruising appear, but you can use make-up to conceal any of this.
Botox results
You may start to see a reduction in wrinkles straight after your treatment. However, it can take up to two weeks for Botox to fully settle. This is when you will see the biggest improvement in your fine lines and wrinkles.
Your results should last 3-4 months. For some people, they can last up to six months. This will depend on how your body responds to the treatment.
We do recommend a repeat treatment at the 3-4 month mark so that you can continue to see a smooth and wrinkle-free appearance.
