What are anti-wrinkle injections?

Anti-wrinkle treatment or Botox treatment is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the UK for women and men. This is because it is a safe and effective way to minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face.

Anti-wrinkle injections use Botulinum toxin, which is a natural protein. The use of this toxin through injection into specific facial muscles means that it stops the muscles from working for a short period. These are the muscles that cause the lines and wrinkles to show when you smile, laugh or frown.

After 3-4 months, the Botox treatment will wear off, and the treated facial muscles will return to their normal function. This also means that the wrinkles will start to reappear. We do recommend a top-up treatment at the three-month mark to maintain your smooth, wrinkle-free results.

Are Botox injections the same as dermal fillers?

While both these injectable treatments can complement each other, they do not perform the same function or provide you with the same results. They both have great anti-ageing treatments, but here is a breakdown of why they are different.

Anti-wrinkle injections vs dermal fillers

If you want to add volume or restore volume in areas of the face such as the cheeks, lips or jawline, dermal fillers are the right treatment. They use a gel-like substance that contains hyaluronic acid to plump and hydrate the skin. This not only adds structure and definition to the face but also reduces deep lines and wrinkles.

Because dermal fillers help to hydrate the skin and produce natural collagen in the skin, they are also considered a skin rejuvenation treatment. This is because, over time, your skin will start to look firmer and radiant.

Anti-wrinkle injections, on the other hand, do not add volume or definition to the skin. They also do not work on deeper-set lines and wrinkles that remain on the face even when you stop smiling or frowning.

Can I have dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections together?

It may be possible to have both treatments at the same time, but this will depend on which areas you are having each treatment in.

When you have your consultation at our clinic, we will create a bespoke treatment plan. This will include whether you will benefit from one treatment or both. We will also discuss when you can have each treatment and the amount of Botox and/or dermal filler we will use to get the best results.

How do anti-wrinkle injections work?

Your first step is to have a consultation with one of our experienced medical professionals. This is so we can assess your skin condition and skin health to determine if you are suitable for treatment. We will also talk you through the treatment process and what you can expect from your results.

When you come for your Botox treatment, your practitioner will talk you through where the injection points will be and how much Botox we will use to achieve the desired result.

The treatment itself is fairly comfortable. Most patients say they only feel a slight scratch from the fine needle. If you have sensitive skin or are anxious about having needles, we can discuss using a topical numbing cream on the treatment area first.

In total, your anti-wrinkle injections should take no longer than 30 minutes. This will depend on the number of areas you are having Botox on. Once your treatment is finished, we will talk to you about how to take care of your skin and allow the Botox to settle.

Are there any side effects from Botox injections?

Patient safety is our main priority at Dr Grace Kelly Aesthetic Skin Clinic. Your treatment will be with a fully trained doctor or practitioner who understands how to inject Botox safely and accurately.

After your treatment, you may see some slight swelling and redness in the treatment area. This is completely normal and should go down within 24-48 hours. After this time, any minor bruising can be covered up with makeup or concealer.

Anti-wrinkle injection results – how long do they last?

Botox does not immediately erase your lines and wrinkles. You will need to wait for up to two weeks for the Botox to settle and stop the muscles from doing their normal function. At this point, you will see a reduction in wrinkles and notice smoother-looking skin.

Your results should last for 3-4 months. For some, the results may last for up to six months. This will depend on how your body reacts to the Botox and how quickly it breaks it down.

At the three-month mark, we recommend that you book a top-up appointment to ensure you maintain your great results.
