Forehead Lines
When lines develop on the forehead a person may feel that their appearance is starting to look tired or stressed.
WHAT ARE FOREHEAD LINES?
Forehead lines will typically run horizontally across the forehead, and people may begin to notice them when they are in the 30’s. These lines will often appear as fine creases that develop into deeper wrinkles as a person enters their 40’s or 50’s. When forehead lines become a concern, it is often because the lines that appear when the eyebrows are raised, do not disappear when the eyebrows are lowered.
WHAT CAUSES FOREHEAD LINES?
There are two reasons for the development of forehead lines; ageing skin and facial movement. Weak skin that is less stretchy is the result of lost collagen and elastin, which naturally occurs during the ageing process. This combines with tired muscles that become taut from the many repeated movements of the forehead over time, causing a permanent groove in the underlying tissues. As the skin sits in this groove, the wrinkle will also become a permanent feature. Sun exposure can also contribute to forehead lines, speeding up the rate at which collagen and elastin depletes, especially as the face is one part of the body that is constantly open to the elements.
HOW CAN THEY BE TREATED?
At Dr. Grace Kelly Aesthetic Skin Clinic we use anti-wrinkle injections to treat the appearance of forehead lines. The product that is contained within this procedure helps to relax the muscles in the forehead (the frontalis muscle), easing tightness and reducing over contractions. Anti-wrinkle injections work to temporarily stop grooves from forming in the underlying tissues, and the subsequent visible wrinkles. The results will give smoother skin that looks rejuvenated and more youthful. For a more advanced outcome, anti-wrinkle injections can be combined with microneedling, with the additional use of medical grade skin care helping to provide long-term support to their effects.
