Thigh Fat

WHAT IS THIGH FAT?

Thigh fat can change the shape and size of the upper part of the legs, making them look disproportionate and less toned. Thigh fat can make the legs wobbly and dimpled in appearance, as well as increasing the look of cellulite.

When excess fat has developed on the thighs, it can cause aesthetic concern as the legs may not be perceived as attractive in certain clothing, that may also feel tight.

WHAT CAUSES THIGH FAT?

Thigh fat can often be soft and jiggly, especially when moving the legs. This is known as subcutaneous fat, and sits in the space just beneath the skin. This type of fat can build up on various areas of the face and body, including the thighs, and is often the result of weight gain. Everyone requires a certain amount of calories everyday in order for the body to function. Regularly consuming an excess of calories (listed on food packaging as energy) or foods that are high in sugar and / or saturated fat can provide the body with excess energy which can then be stored as fat if it is not used up. The way the body distributes excess fat in the body can vary from one person to another. Where one person finds they gain weight around the stomach, others will find they gain weight around the hips and thighs. This may be down to individual genetics, which ageing and hormonal changes can also contribute to.
