WHAT IS CRYOPEN?
Cryopen is an advanced, non-invasive skin lesion removal technique offered by Dr Grace Kelly Aesthetic Skin Clinic in Chalfont St Peter. It uses extreme cold temperatures to destroy a variety of skin lesions, including: sun spots / age spots, skin tags, warts, verrucas and seborrheic keratosis (a non-cancerous skin growth). Lumps, bumps and lesions can appear for many different reasons, which often cause the skin to be uneven in texture and / or tone.
HOW DOES CRYOPEN WORK?
The CryoPen treatment process at our Chalfont St Peter clinic is usually very straightforward and requires the pen-like device to be applied directly to the lesion. Your CryoPen professional will administer a fine jet of nitrous oxide to the tissues within the lesion, which crystallises and breaks the cell’s membrane. The freezing process permanently destroys the targeted tissues without damaging any skin or other surrounding tissues. Cryopen provides many benefits for patients with an unwanted skin lesion. The skin lesion removal treatment is quick and safe, delivering consistent freeze temperatures with pin-point accuracy. And, as the nitrous oxide can bring the affected area to temperatures as low as -89 degrees, there is no need for anaesthesia.
WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT FROM CRYOPEN TREATMENT?
Although CryoPen will immediately destroy the unwanted lesion’s cellular structure, it may take up to 6 weeks for the lesion to expel. This process occurs naturally as the body will work to regenerate new skin cells, and remove the lesion from the surface. Cryopen can effectively treat skin lesions up to 10mm in diameter, and the size of the irregularity will determine how quickly the treated area heals. At Dr Grace Kelly in Chalfont St Peter we approach each case individually, and patients may be asked to return for a review at around 4 weeks after skin lesion removal treatment. The final outcome will restore a smoother skin surface, that may be more even in tone.

The following skin lesions can be treated through a Cryopen professional at Dr Grace Kelly Aesthetic Skin Clinic in Chalfont St Peter: skin tags, age spots, non-cancerous growths, warts and verrucas. However, if you are someone who is pregnant, breastfeeding, or has an immune disorder, you may not be recommended for CryoPen treatment.
Cryopen has long been considered a safe and effective treatment for skin lesion removal. In fact, this technique is found to be suitable for people of all ages, even children.
Due to the instant low temperatures delivered to the tissues during CryoPen treatment at our Chalfont St Peter clinic, the area will automatically be numbed. This means you will naturally feel no pain, and no anaesthetic will be required.
The treated area may form a blister in the hours that follow skin lesion removal treatment. This will turn to a scab within a few days which may take up to 6 weeks to fall off. It would be normal for our Buckinghamshire patients to experience some slight stinging of the treatment area, as well as feeling a little sore and looking red.
Your Chalfont St Peter CryoPen professional will advise you that it is important not to pick at any scabs as this may increase your risk of scarring. You will need to allow the treated area to settle for up to 72 hours, keeping the area dry and free from harsh products and cosmetics.
